George Borrow Society Weekend, 13-15th April, 2012.

Friday 13th

6.00 pm onwards Informal drink in The Chough, 36 Blue Boar Row, Salisbury SP1 1DA for those who have already arrived. This will be an opportunity to meet Norman Parker, who will be speaking to us about 19th Century Amesbury and leading us on two walks during the weekend.

Saturday 14th

11.00 am Meet Norman Parker at the West Door of Salisbury Cathedral, The Close, Salisbury SP1 2EJ for a guided tour of Salisbury.
1.00 pm onwards George Borrow Society lunch in the upper room at The Chough, 36 Blue Boar Row, Salisbury SP1 1DA
2.30 pm (approx) Mike Skillman, George Borrow Society: ‘Borrow in Wiltshire’
3.00 pm (approx) Norman Parker, Amesbury Historical Society: ‘Amesbury in the 19th Century’
3.30 pm (approx) Nick Ray will perform ‘Lavengro Gipsy Intermezzo’ by J Fred Helf and ‘Romany Rye Gypsy Intermezzo’ by E T Paull.
Evening Arrangements for an informal evening meal will be discussed during the day with those who are interested.

Sunday 15th April

10.30 am Meet Norman Parker in the car park at Old Sarum, Castle Road, Salisbury SP1 3SD. Admission to the hill fort will be £3.80 for adults, £2.30 for children aged 5-15, £3.40 for those with concessions and free for English Heritage members.

We will then move on to Amesbury for lunch and a short walk around the town.
12.30 pm onwards Lunch in the Carvery at The George Hotel, 19 High Street, Amesbury, Wiltshire SP4 7ET. The George Hotel was originally the Pilgrims’ Hostelry of Amesbury Abbey and dates back to the 13th Century. The Amesbury Aviation Heritage Centre was set up by Norman Parker inside the George Hotel in September 2010.
