The Spring 2018 George Borrow Bulletin is now out
(Series 2, No. 16) and members should have received their copy
during May 2018.
It’s interesting that in this Bulletin a number previously discussed topics are again picked up and moved forward: with well over 100 years of Borrovian scholarship many would expect that everything about Borrow was know years ago, whereas our members seem to discover more and more as time goes by. Part of the charm of Borrovian studies is the puzzling out of what Borrow has left, and the resulting investigations often yield surprising results.
An important notice for members is in the magazine: the Society is planning a weekend in Shrewsbury 26–28 October 2018 and we’d love to have as many as possible attend. Shrewsbury itself is a beautiful town, full of old buildings which were there when the Borrows lived there (for five months in 1856). The venues for the meetings and an evening meal (which should be very pleasant) are already booked, and as soon as the details of our Sunday coach trip are sorted out we’ll be emailing members with details. Also, the centre of Shrewsbury is quite compact and so not a lot of walking will be involved.
Lastly, among the many excellent articles, there’s a write-up of our wonderful weekend in King’s Lynn in 2017.
