Portrait of George Borrow

Lavengro with an introduction by Richard Shepheard

The first part of George Borrow’s semi-autobiographical novel, Lavengro, follows George Borrow’s life from 1803 to around 1825.  It’s widely regarded as a classic and has appeared in numerous editions.  (All of the pictures in our banner above illustrate scenes from Lavengo.)

Richard Shepheard has devoted many years of study to Lavengro and its successor The Romany Rye, and has published many articles on Borrow in the George Borrow Bulletin.  With Brian Mencher he published The Dingle Chapters which combines parts of Lavengro with The Romany Rye.

Richard’s foreword greatly enhances the value of this edition, coming as it does from an acknowledged expert.

The book is a print-on-demand book and can be obtained from The Long Riders’ Guild Press.
