Portrait of George Borrow

The Romany Rye with an introduction by Richard Shepheard

The second part of George Borrow’s semi-autobiographical novel, The Romany Rye, continues the story of Lavengro, and takes George Borrow from the Dingle to Horncastle, with many adventures in between.  It also contains the (in)famous “Appendix” where George Borrow robustly sets forth his views on various topics.

Richard Shepheard has devoted many years of study to Lavengro and The Romany Rye, and has published many articles on Borrow in the George Borrow Bulletin.  With Brian Mencher he published The Dingle Chapters which combines parts of Lavengro with The Romany Rye.

Richard’s foreword greatly enhances the value of this edition, coming as it does from an acknowledged expert.

The book is a print-on-demand book and can be obtained from The Long Riders’ Guild Press.
