Portrait of George Borrow

Christmas 2011

(A proper write-up will appear in the George Borrow Bulletin for Spring 2012.)

Members of the Society had to traverse the wild and unexplored wastes of London (known as “near the Elephant and Castle”) on Friday, 2nd December 2011, where the National Portrait Gallery provided a private viewing of two portraits of George Borrow not normally on public display.  Judging form the discussions over lunch the following day everyone was very grateful to the National Portrait Gallery, although it seems to have sparked a number of theories about other Borrow portraits!

On the Saturday members returned to the Golden Lion pub. for a very pleasant Christmas lunch and lots of time to socialise with friends.
