More about the committee

Trish Gurney is a third generation Borrovian, George Borrow having been her late grandfather’s favourite author. Like Borrow, Trish has a passion for languages, literature, travel and learning. She holds a BA (Hons) Degree in German, an MSc in Psychology and professional qualifications in translation, teaching and diagnostic assessment. She was a District Councillor 2011-2015 before becoming a Trustee of the Bronte Society Board in 2016 and serving as its Chair 2019-2022. She has been Chair of the George Borrow Society since November 2023 and is working with the Committee to inspire 21st century Borrovians.

Catherine Bayliss, retired from careers in scholarly book publishing and information technology, lives in Gloucester,       Massachusetts. Romany Rye was her introduction to George Borrow. Her first GBS conference was in 2016, when it was   held in Epping. She has been a member of the online book group since it began in 2020 and enjoys the excuse to reread one of her favorite authors.
