George Borrow Society

Support the George Borrow Society

We are a volunteer-run literary society with members from around the world. Our aim is to promote knowledge of the life, work and times of the 19th century writer, traveller and philologist George Henry Borrow (1803-1881). His works of travelogue and autobiographical fiction include vivid descriptions of the countries he visited and the people he encountered. He is also well-known for his friendship with the Romany or Gypsy people, and he was one of the first to get to know their language and customs.

Our work is supported by subscriptions from members and donations from well-wishers.
