List of Borrow Writings

Borrow’s publisher was John Murray. He printed the following six books by Borrow. They were all reprinted in the Definitive Edition (1901) and are available in a variety of free electronic electronic editions on Project Gutenberg. Links to electronic editions are included below. 

In addition, the following works were either self-published or brought out in very limited editions:

  • Celebrated Trials and Remarkable Cases of Criminal Jurisprudence from the Earliest Records to the Year 1825 (London, 1825). Internet Archive.

In addition, in 1913-14 Thomas Wise published a series of 42 pamphlets consisting mainly of Borrow’s unpublished verse translations of Danish ballads, but also including letters to his mother Anne Borrow, plus a Supplementary Chapter to The Bible in Spain. They are all available via Project Gutenberg.

In 1923 Clement Shorter brought out a limited edition Complete Works of George Borrow (The Norwich Edition, 16 volumes). This was reprinted by AMS Press (1967).
